Despite threats of a global pandemic, wars, and climate change, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) warns that food insecurity is the biggest international problem we face.  The WFP notes that the, “number of those facing acute food insecurity has soared – from 135 million to 345 million – since 2019. A total of 50 million people in 45 countries are teetering on the edge of famine.”  Thus, since the start of the Covid 19 pandemic, we have seen a nearly 250% increase across the globe in those that are food insecure. Exacerbating matters, the war in Ukraine at the hands of Russia has negatively impacted the earth’s food supply, namely regarding agriculture. 

Unfortunately, not enough is being done to combat the problem.  One of the main reasons is due to a lack of hunger awareness across the world.  Often times, hunger is thought of as something that is a problem that happens in countries thousands of miles away.  However, hunger may be a problem just a few towns over or even in your own community.  Humanitarian agencies like WFP, Save the Children, Catholic Relief Services, Mercy Corps, CARE and others that fight hunger daily are always looking for donations and volunteers to help put an end to hunger.  Moreover, at F4 we have the same needs and regarding donations and volunteers to help us expand our mission of creating a world without hunger.  We have managed to serve over 3,000,000 people and can build upon that with the help of others and by educating the public about the global hunger crisis.

William Lambers of the WFP has the absolute right outlook that we all must have if we want to solve the hunger crisis once and for all, “There is enough food for everyone in the world. No one should be starving to death. If enough people take action we can do something about it.”
