Fiorenza’s Food For Friends – F4 – is a group of volunteers whose sole mission is to try and help end hunger in our own backyard and across the region. We are unique yet we are the same as many across the country and around the world.

Just about anywhere in the U.S., you will find a group similar to F4 – good people trying to do good deeds. Donating their time, energy and sometimes their own money to help families to not literally starve. Hunger and food insecurity are all too real.

We are all individual groups performing the same kind of mission. The groups may have their own individual “models” but the goal is the same. And most of the groups do it without any help from the government and without strong arm tactics of giant lobbying groups or the strength of organizations or unions.

In a recent article in The Hill, however, the writers made the point that when the government takes bold actions, things like hunger can get fixed – although admittedly not completely. But the key is to have “a seat at the table.” And that mean wielding strength and having some power and sadly, to play some politics.

Perhaps it’s time that every group like F4 around the U.S. join forces and create a giant, powerful and influential food insecurity/hunger advocacy group. Unfortunately, we need the government to help with challenges like hunger. Rarely do leaders listen to the few voices yelling out loud. However, when faced with thousands of voices who represent a huge voting bloc, that gets attention.

It may be just the right time to join forces and start the yelling. The groups around the country like F4 need a seat at the table. Now.
